This humble gymrat was out of commission a few days with a bad case of the flu so here is a TWO week update. Thank you for your patience.
There were several competitions in weeks 3 and 4 and quite a few changes in the national rankings. THAT, and we have now begun using the “national average” algorithm (for teams with more than one score posted). So, here are the CURRENT standings:

Meanwhile the hunt for All-Star teams is underway. ONE submission in (out of three) and it’s the smallest of sample sizes, but the margin between leading your conference standings or being knocked out of the meet is razor thin. If the qualification ended today 8 different schools would be represented. Though that could all change in a week. The second submission period just started. Who will be in the lead then? Here are the partial standings:

Stay healthy, everyone,
Breeze
STICK MASTERS
Week 3:
🏆Bandits: 4
Week 4:
🏆Maveriks: 6 STICKS (+ 4 on PH)
Minnesota GymACT Team 1: 3
Minnesota GymACT Team 2: 7 sticks – honorable mention… but only 1 entry per program. Sorry, Mike ;)
From the Coaches
BANDITS
Week 3:
The Bandits had 4 individuals competing at the Stanford Open.
2 veterans; William Pearce and Evan Hymanson, alongside two freshman on the team Finn Grenstam and Joseph Conley.
The competition had its challenges, with some growing pains as the Bandits had to acclimate to competing in front of a sold-out crowd with tons of energy. An exciting meet where the upcoming bandits showed lots of promise. We can't wait to see them be able to put it all together by the end of the year.
MINNESOTA
Week 3 & 4:
Minnesota was idle in Week 3 but was back in action in Week 4 at the annual John Roethlisberger Iceberg Invitational, which took place at Shakopee High School in Shakopee, MN. The JRI has been ongoing for the past 30 years and over 400 boys competed this time around.

Minnesota once again fielded two full teams. Gopher legendary 3-time Olympian John Roethlisberger was on hand to see Minnesota GymACT Teams 1 & 2 do battle with the Hawkeyes from Iowa and the Flippers from Wisconsin. The Saturday night session also showcased Level 9’s & 10’s along with the collegiate programs. Good stuff.
When the dust settled, Minnesota was again able to capture the top 2 spots with Team 1 taking top honors with a team score of 299.00. Team 2 closed the gap and posted a 291.25, nudging a much improved Iowa team that posted a 289.40. Wisconsin finished the night with a 129.50.
Iowa’s Raif Schaffner edged out MN’s Peter Davis-Ross for the AA title, 73.85 to 73.25, with MN’s Joey Pennell taking the Bronze in the AA with an impressive 71.25.
Owen Frank had an impressive night, winning SR (13.5) and PB (12.65). KJ Richardson took home top honors on PH (11.75) while Jack Gagamov wowed the crowd on HB, posting the top score of 13.10.
Minnesota is operating on all cylinders, providing opportunities for the entire team on a regular basis.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MAVERICKS
The Mavericks competed in Seattle, WA for the first time ever and gained a 17.5 increase in our team score from meet 1 to meet 2!!!! The guys rocked their meet focus and attitude and their improved performance showed. We also had a Maverick place in the top three on almost every event:
FX 1st - Evan McGrath, 2nd - Jackson Korowin
SR 2nd - Gavin Robey
VT 1st - Evan McGrath, 2nd - Jackson Korowin
PB 2nd - Jackson Korowin
HB 2nd - Ethan Zenick

FLORIDA STORM
Florida Storm takes 1st place at the Daytona Beach Open.
Saturday night in Daytona Beach, Florida Storm stepped onto the floor and delivered. Competing against strong GymACT programs, the team earned 1st place overall at the Daytona Beach Open, finishing ahead of the KCU Twisters, North Carolina Airmen, and Georgia United.
This result reflects the work being done every day in training. Focus, preparation, and attention to detail showed up when it mattered most. Each routine contributed, and the team stayed locked in from start to finish in a competitive field.
Credit to all the GymACT programs who competed and helped make it a great night of men’s gymnastics. We appreciate the competitive environment and the opportunity to test ourselves on the floor.
1st Place at Daytona Beach Open: Florida Storm
Proud of the performance. On to the next one.

Gymnast of the Week 3

Nominees

Amir El-Moslemany - Temple
Freshman Amir El-Moslemany competed a beautiful handspring rudi on vault in the Navy Open last weekend. This was 5th among all competitors which included strong vaulters from Navy, Springfield, William and Mary, and North Carolina.

Joshua George - Florida Storm
Joshua George walked into the EVO Collegiate Meet and made it clear we’re a competitive program. He delivered a strong 12.8 on rings, a solid 12.2 on parallel bars, and tackled other events as well—continuing to provide strong, well-rounded gymnastics for the team.
Gymnast of the Week 4
Nominees

Owen Frank - Minnesota
Senior & Team Captain Owen Frank took home two event titles this weekend at the John Roethlisberger Iceberg Invitational. Owen posted the highest score in the nation on Still Rings with a 13,50 and hit a solid set on PB's with a score of 12.65 which gave him his second event title of the night and his 3rd event title of the season (he was crowned Still Rings Champion at the Windy City as well). Owen also hit his set on Pommel Horse to post a score of 11.55 that put him in a tie for 6th place. Owen continues to lead by example on the competition floor where he currently is on a roll, hitting 100% of his routines thus far this season. This is exactly the type of leadership a team looks for out of its senior leaders. Congrats to Owen for his continued success on the competition floor.

Avery Anderson - NIU
Sophomore Avery Anderson put up a massive 14.6 routine this weekend against the Indy-Hio Hyenas. Avery earned the ring title of the competition with a score of 12.1. Keep an eye on this sophomore as he continues to fight for top positions on the Still Rings throughout the season and into Conference and National Championships. Go Huskies!!

Aidan Myers - Arizona
Aidan Myers returned to competition for the first time since tearing his ACL last season and delivered a standout performance on pommel horse, helping lead the Sun Devils to victory. His score of 13.9 not only anchored the team effort, but stands as the highest pommel horse score and highest non-vault individual event score of the season across all GymACT competitions

Jack Ongstad - North Carolina Airmen
Freshman Jack Ongstad has been the Airmen’s most consistent competitor through our first 3 meets. A Chicago high school gymnast, coached by Iowa Hawkeye pommel stand out Greg Gebhardt, Jack came to NC State University to pursue his engineering degree. He is a true team player and embodies a level of sportsmanship that is exemplary of the GymACT ideal and the best of college athletics. Jack earned personal best scores at the Daytona Beach Open on Floor, Pommel Horse, and Parallel Bars.

Jackson Korowin - Mavericks
Jackson Korowin led the team's performance in this meet!!! Jackson rocked the show placing second on FX, VT, and PB. He competed his FX routine with upgraded skills, and his PB routine with an Execution Score of a 9.7!!!!
IN THE MEDIA:
🎂 TEMPLE’s 100!!! 🎂
The Temple Men's gymnastics program is celebrating its 100th year in existence. But at one point, that existence was looking bleak. The program lost all of its funding and had to transition to a club sport. So much respect for the athletes!

MEET THE COACH: Mike Burns (and family)
It was great to have John Roethlisberger in town to watch the Gophers in action. Head coach Mike Burns was unable to attend the Roethlisberger Iceberg meet over the weekend as he was celebrating mom's 100th birthday in Boston along with family members. Lulu Burns was born during the Coolidge Administration and has lived through 18 different presidents!! A great great celebration for a great woman!
