For coach Rob Survick (action needed)

A note from ASU head coach coach Scott Barclay:

If you have been keeping up with the team on social media, most of you know the situation with ASU‘s Assistant Coach, Rob Survick (on the team 1998- 2002 and helped coach for the last 16 years), who was diagnosed with ALS last August. Since then, Rob has lost most of the use of his Left arm and soon his right one will not serve him well. The average life time of one diagnosed with ALS has been 3-5 years. This is very sad news. BUT.... THERE IS HOPE! Rob is a fighter and with the help of his wife Missy, every day they are working the political ropes to get certain new and VERY PROMISING drugs to those who are literally DYING while WAITING.

This is where Rob has asked for help....

Just a couple weeks ago, a HOUSE bill and a SENATE bill that would give end-of-life patients ACCESS to newly developed drugs that have shown great promise in slowing (and in some cases even reversing) this ugly condition. Even though there has been good reaction so far, there is a limited time to get a certain number of Congressmen to co-sponsor these bills in order for it to even come up for a vote.

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE.. take 5-10 minutes of your life to help Rob gain a hope for his life. Rob has poured his heart into ASU gymnastics for over 20 years. Rob and Missy have 2 young children, 9 & 7 years old.

The MAIN Goal is to get the Senate Bill 1813 and the House bill 3537 (Both are the same bills) to get enough co-sponsors and eventually get passed.

This is the script our current team members are using when they call and write.

If you have any questions, feel free to write me back, leave a comment below, or contact Missy at msurvick@ecoengineering.com

To simplify, below is what I just sent to our current team. Please use your own words & methods or cut & paste as you need.

Thanks for your support of Rob, Others with ALS and the TEAM!

Feel free to post on your personal Social media. Spread the word!

ASU Head Men's Gymnastics Coach GymACT- President ------------------------------------------------- OK guys... we have talked about being ready to step out and help AT THE RIGHT TIME. NOW is the right time for all of us to ACT..... AND to share this with 10 other (MINIMUM) friends & family to get them to do the same thing. The key is to DO IT NOW!!!!! Let's START with what the GOAL is.... TO GET CONGRESS TO PASS A SPECIFIC BILL (Senate Bill 1813 &/or House Bill 3537) SO THAT YOUR COACH CAN GET THE DRUGS (that are already been manufactured) AND HAVE A FIGHTING CHANCE TO BE AROUND TO COACH ASU FOR ANOTHER 20+ YEARS! There are 3 things we need to do together as a team to help Rob.... #1) Go to this website helpmayuri.com that will VERY EASILY walk you through the steps to 1) send an email and 2) make a phone call to your Senator. BOTH these things NEED to be done.... NOW!! If that website doesn't work for you, go to https://www.congress.gov/members?q=%7B%22congress%22%3A116%7D and put the cursor on the map where you live (Both in school and at home). #2) Take 2 minutes to call each one. Read the script below or put it in your own words. but PUSH THE NAME OF THE BILL!!! Then cut and paste and send each of them your email (below) A) When you get ready to send your email, the easiest way is to CUT & PASTE the words below and THEN change a few things (the school you attend) and write your OWN details that make it more personal (ie- add your year and Major in school, Parents in the military, etc). If calling/ writing a Senator: I am a student and a member of the Arizona State University Men's Gymnastics Team. My coach, Rob Survick was diagnosed in August of 2020 with ALS and is LITERALLY fighting for his life. I’m calling to ask the Senator to co-sponsor the ACT for ALS bill, Senate Bill 1813. That’s 1-8-1-3. ALS is 100% fatal and untreatable. This bill can change that. It will help people who are Dying Waiting get access to potentially life-changing treatments that are stuck in clinical trials. We know there are drugs out there RIGHT NOW that are helping save lives. We need Coach Rob to be able to have access to them before it is too late! Thank you for your time! If calling / writing a House of Representative: I am a student and a member of the Arizona State University Men's Gymnastics Team. My coach, Rob Survick was diagnosed in August of 2020 with ALS and is LITERALLY fighting for his life. I’m calling to ask the House Member to co-sponsor the ACT for ALS bill, House Bill 3537. That’s 3-5-3-7. #3) Forward this email on to your family and friends with your own personal intro. (I would send a PERSONAL greeting to 10 people. Maybe better than sending a mass email to 50!) That's it for now. We may try to have you do this as a team once a week until it is passed! But get it done THIS WEEK- DO IT NOW! Make a Difference! If further questions..... - you can contact my coach’s wife, Melissa if you want.
